A Letter from Charles & Sabrina

Welcome! We are Charles and Sabrina, and we are both honored to say we married our best friend. We met years ago when we worked for the same university. Bonding over projects and shared interests allowed our working relationship to develop into a friendship and ultimately love.

Today, we are enjoying our best lives together: traveling the world, spending time with wonderful family and friends, and having a blast in it all. Sabrina is a foodie who enjoys introducing Charles to new cuisine (sometimes reluctantly). Charles is a sports fanatic that will watch any athletic competition at any time. Together we love exploring the world through the other person’s eyes and we are excited to welcome a new addition to our family to join us on this phenomenal journey.

About Us

We have been friends for over a decade and married almost three years. We are blessed to share similar faith beliefs and allow that to guide our relationship and daily interactions with others. We love laughing and being silly, often finding time to poke fun at ourselves when life gets heavy.  We enjoy spending time together attending a sports event or concert, dining out, hosting local relatives, and even volunteering in service opportunities. There are many things that bring us joy about living in Florida. The beautiful weather calls us for walks in our neighborhood or drives to the beach or state fair. We both work regular Monday through Friday schedules and with Charles as a business owner, down-time is a must to allow us to recoup and reconnect.

We are looking forward to the opportunity to raise a child (or two) together. We want to share with them our love of faith, family and friends. Having loved ones that experienced adoption gives us close family members to assist navigating the challenges or potentially any questions our child may have.

About Sabrina (written by Charles)

Sabrina is a city girl that enjoys the slower life of the southern states. One of her major love languages is quality time, so she’s the planner of the family. Sabrina will coordinate events and travel and is always inviting extended family to join in on the fun. When home, Sabrina likes to binge watch Netflix or sit out by the pool. Professionally, Sabrina enjoys her job educating people on how to connect across differences. When not working or spending time with her circle of loved ones, Sabrina loves volunteering with various community organizations near and dear to her heart. She is a sorority girl, board member, and foodie. Sabrina is one of the most laid-back, caring and generous people to know and she is always open to lend an ear or a shoulder to those in need.

Sabrina initiated the adoption conversation as she has relatives that were adopted as children. She has always been interested in providing the same opportunity to a child when she was able. She considers adoption an honor and privilege and looks forward to learning “new math” while helping our child with homework, as education is very important to her. She can’t wait to travel the world with our child and show them different places, people and delicious food.

About Charles (written by Sabrina)

Charles loves his faith, his family, his work and his sports. He is honored to serve on the ministry team at a local church and the family is in the audience when he shares his monthly message with the congregation. He is an avid sports fan and can be found in front of the television for any and every athletic competition that airs. He loves that Sabrina enjoys attending sporting events with him and even takes time to explain the game in between plays. As the father of two adult daughters, he appreciates providing them advice on careers and relationships and being the supportive father they need. Charles is one of the most down-to-earth, humorous and driven guys you will ever meet, and he is grateful for the life he has been blessed with. Professionally Charles loves to wear suits, even when he visits construction sites on business. He is a military veteran and author. Charles is looking forward to introducing our child to two of his favorite things: faith and sports. Charles is also hopeful our child will enjoy watching sports with him and cheering on his favorite team. He has a wonderful life story and is indeed my favorite person!

Home In Florida Is Where Our Heart Is

We are pleased to live in the Sunshine State near beaches, amusement parks, local entertainment venues, and on a beautiful golf course. We truly believe we have access to the best Florida has to offer. We have a beautiful home; it has four bedrooms, including a nursery and a room for visiting guests. We are family oriented, so it is important that we have a welcoming space for them to visit and stay a few days. The remaining bedroom in the house is where our mom/mother-in law resides during her winter visits from New York. Occasionally you will find us sitting outside by our pool, enjoying the Florida sun and chatting with the local golfers, or relaxing in our hot tub. Charles escapes upstairs to his man cave at least once a week to watch sports and shout plays at the screen. We like to exercise and play board or card games in our home.

Our neighborhood is incredibly diverse, with families and youth of all ages. Our subdivision is gated, allowing for enhanced security as well as a comfortable road for residents to ride bikes along. The streets are lined with trees providing shade during peaceful walks and our house is just across the pond from one of three daycare facilities in the community. The voices of children playing bring smiles to our hearts daily.

Our Beautiful Family

Charles has two adult daughters, one living locally and the other in the Midwest. Both girls have close relationships with us, maintaining regular contact and joining on family trips. Our youngest calls Sabrina regularly to chat about work and her social life, always appreciative of the support and advice.

Sabrina’s mother is a snowbird, traveling between Florida and New York throughout the year. As our last living parent, we are honored to have her living with us from October to July. Having her in the home has been a blessing as she brings humor, companionship and maternal support whenever she is around. We eat meals together, attend local events, and host extended family in our home for holidays. We both have siblings living within an hour of our home. While Sabrina cooks for Charles and Mom at least four times each week, we all enjoy Mom’s cooking for holiday meals such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Celebrating with over 20 people under one roof is one of our favorite moments each year.

Our extended family is close-knit and are over the moon with excitement for our new addition!

Our Promise

As we have been blessed with love and grace, we promise to share that and so much more with your child. We would be honored to have this addition to our lives and give them all the love and happiness they deserve. We will be nurturing, caring, supportive and encouraging parents that will guide them through the twists and turns life has to offer. We will do everything we can to keep them safe, while encouraging their resilience during trials. We look forward to showing them the world beyond our immediate community and encourage them to strive for their dreams.

Our commitment to you is that we will work to build a trusted connection with you and maintain contact and share updates as you are comfortable. We are open to phone or text communication, letters and occasional visits.  We promise to share your story with them, ensuring they know how honored we are to have connected with you.

We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. Please call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

More About Our Family
Our Thoughts on Parenthood

We believe that raising a child is one of the most important tasks anyone can undertake. We are both fortunate to have had great adults in our lives as children and young adults and we want to offer the many things we gained through interacting with them to our child. One of those things is the experience of unconditional love and affection. It is important to us that our child knows that there are no mistakes large enough to change our love for them. Another is celebration of individuality. We will work to ensure that our child feels appreciated for the things they are interested in as well as their feelings. We plan to impart these values through open communication, active engagement in their interests and opportunities for us to experience new things together. We believe discipline should not only be appropriate, but a learning tool. Often times children need space to process their own regrets and mistakes without added pressure of their parents. We intend to spend a great deal of time listening to our child, so they know their voice is valued.

Our Faith

Charles is a Baptist minister and Sabrina was raised in the Catholic church. Our belief in Christ is incredibly strong, so as a family it is important that we attend church weekly together. Most Sundays we attend a non-denominational Christian Church. At least once a month, we attend Charles' Progressive Missionary Baptist Church where he serves on the ministry team, preaching every four weeks.

Our Musical Interest

We grew up in very different music genres. Charles is an R & B guy, often listening to Charlie Wilson and Joe. Sabrina was raised on New York Hip Hop but is also a child of the Caribbean. Our family loves music so you will hear it when we are getting ready in the morning, as Charles is cleaning the pool deck, or as we drive to and from daily events.

Our Plans For Our Child’s Education

We value education in and outside of the classroom. We will place our child in school as early as appropriate and be active participants in their formal learning experience. We expect to attend many school events through the years. As a family that experienced military life as well as formal higher education, we will offer opportunities to our child to choose the adult learning path that fits their interest. Outside of the classroom, we will introduce our child to the arts and various cultures through museums, events and travel. We both look forward to reading to our child, reading with our child and eventually listening to our child read to us. We love the quote "Education is Elevation."
