A Letter from Ed & Kathleen

Hi! We’re excited about growing our family through adoption! We come from large, loving, supportive families, are avid sports fans, devout Catholics, and happily married over 5 years. We’ve always dreamed of raising children together. After going through issues with infertility, we felt the call to adoption and started the process. Then we had a surprise pregnancy and welcomed our daughter in 2023. Becoming parents has been everything we’ve ever dreamed it would be and made our desire to continue the adoption process even stronger. We’d love to continue growing our family through adoption, and to get to know you along the way.

A Little About Us

Ed tells the story of how we met: We actually met at a local bar when we were out with our own friends and family. Kathleen made the first move and introduced herself. We spent the whole night talking and learned we went to the same church and had similar upbringings, lifestyles, and interests. (That night Kathleen even told her twin sister that she had met the man she was going to marry!) One week later we had our first date and were married after a few years of dating. It was meant to be!

Things we enjoy as a couple:
Food: We love cooking new recipes at home or going out for date night dinner.
Sports: We grew up playing sports so we like to stay active, but we also love watching professional games or going to Friday night games at the school where Ed’s father coaches football.
Friendly competition: We really get into contests, from board games to 5K races.
Morning “coffee walks:” Every weekend we pick a different local coffee shop, get a cup to-go, and walk along various trails or parks in the area.
Traveling: We’ve been to places around the U.S. and overseas. Two of our favorite places were Bosnia and Croatia!

Meet Kathleen

According to Ed: Kathleen is devoted, affectionate, honorable, and loyal. She shows up for people she loves, whether it’s to help out with babysitting or just be there for support. She is kind and always knows the right thing to say to make someone feel special. Kathleen always finds a way to make me feel important too. She sticks to her values and is true to herself. Kathleen is also known in her family for her quick wit and sense of humor. She loves telling stories and doing impressions of family and friends, which always get a good laugh. I love seeing Kathleen as a mother now! She always puts our daughter first and being a mom just comes naturally to her.

Kathleen’s interests:
• Running (I’ve loved it since I was 6 years old!)
• Cooking my favorite dishes for family dinners
• Reading along with my book club
• Shopping (browsing more than buying!)

Meet Ed

According to Kathleen: I love the way Ed carries himself with confidence and strength. He is also kind, gentle, selfless, loving, patient, caring, and always there for us. Children adore Ed! He’s the one they want to shoot hoops or play catch with, and he’s always up for teaching them a new game. Ed is easy-going and social; he gets along with anyone and is very good at keeping in touch with people he cares about. He truly finds joy in making others happy! Even before we had our daughter, Ed was always considered the “dad” of our group, because he’s so dependable and responsible. Watching Ed as a father is my favorite thing in the world. He is so sweet with our daughter and both of them light up when they see each other. I’m so thankful for the ways Ed loves me and our family.

Ed’s interests:
• Watching professional baseball or my nephews’ and nieces’ little league baseball or soccer games
• Playing on a recreational basketball league
• Being referee for youth and high school football (my favorite sport!)
• Getting everyone together for game nights

Life in Our Family

Our daughter, Brigid, is very sweet, smiley, and playful. She loves to cuddle and play with her toys. We love watching her grow and learn new things. Everyday is a new adventure with her! Some of our favorite things to do with Brigid are taking walks with her in the stroller or having play dates with her little cousins. We love the idea of raising siblings close in age and look forward to the special relationship Brigid will have with a brother or sister one day.

Extended Family: We both come from big families! Kathleen has 5 siblings, with only one who lives outside of this area in California. She is also close with the 43 cousins she grew up with, most of whom still live nearby. Ed is the oldest of 4 siblings, and also the oldest grandchild on both sides of his family. We always spend holidays with his extended family. Growing up with houses full of relatives is what we know and love! We’re so glad our loved ones live so close so we can see them often.

Our Home in Pennsylvania

We live in a great suburban area where Kathleen grew up. It’s in a nice family neighborhood, which is across the street from a park, playground, baseball and football fields, and a basketball court. Our nieces and nephews play sports at that park, so we easily get to enjoy watching their games! The community here is tight-knit and the kind of place you want to settle down. There are many parks and we can walk to restaurants, shops, or church. Within a couple of hours we can also enjoy weekend trips to the beach or the mountains.

Our house is a newer Cape Cod style home that has plenty of space for our family to grow. We have a nice backyard with a screened-in porch, perfect for morning coffee or summertime dinners. Two of Kathleen’s siblings even live in our neighborhood, and most of our family lives in the surrounding area. We love living so close to our loved ones!

From the Heart...

Our commitment as adoptive parents is to love your child and put your child’s needs above our own. Coming from a big family, we know each child is so unique and special. We will adapt as parents based on our child’s personal needs and passions. We believe parenthood will be an ever-growing experience! We will do everything possible to put joy in your child’s life and to teach by being a good example. Your child will have a lot of love at home, and from our big, happy extended family!

We think open adoption is a positive way to help a child understand where they came from and the beautiful of how we all came together. Of course, we know that can look different for everyone, so we want to know what works best for you and your wishes for a connection to your child and us. Your child will grow up knowing about you and how much you will always mean to us. We will make sure they know of the love and strength that went into your adoption decision.

Thank you for considering us as adoptive parents for your child. We’d love to talk or answer any of your questions. Just call or text Lifetime at 1.800.923.6784.

With love, Ed & Kathleen

More About Our Family
A Few Fun Facts

• We grew up playing sports: Kathleen ran track and cross-country and Ed played football (though he has a huge heart for baseball too!).
• Kathleen is a twin and twins/multiples run in her family! She has two sets of twin cousins and triplet aunts.
• Ed and a few of his friends are on a quest to see all 30 MLB stadiums, and they’ve been to 23 so far!

Plans for Childcare

Kathleen’s work as a nurse allows her to have a flexible schedule and she only works about 5 days each month. Most of the time she is a stay-at-home mom, along with caring for our niece. We have family who will help with childcare on the few days a month when Kathleen is at work.

What Matters to Us

Our faith comes first in our lives. We are practicing Catholics who attend mass regularly and actively pray together. As parents we feel our greatest responsibility is to instill faith in our child’s life and lay the groundwork for a life that leads them to God. We grew up going to Catholic school and plan to do the same for our children, to have a good education and a positive influence of faith at once.

Faith and family are the two most important things to us. In fact, a lot of our family attends church with us! We were both raised by parents who love each other deeply and continue to model what a healthy marriage looks like. Each of us grew up with strong family ties that have carried over into our adulthood. We love and cherish the close bonds we have with our parents, siblings, and our 16 nieces and nephews! Our roles as aunt and uncle, and godparents, helped us prepare for life as mom and dad and we’re hopeful about growing our family through adoption.

Family Traditions

• Sunday dinners are a special tradition with Kathleen’s family that began when she was a child. Every week 4 generations of her family join for dinner at her parents' house!
• Big family vacations to the beach.
• St. Patrick's Day “Shamrock Shuffle” where Kathleen’s whole family walks house to house, having a different Irish dish at each family member’s house, with Irish music and festive celebrations. (Her family is so proud of their Irish roots!)
• Having Lebanese dishes at our holidays, to honor Ed's family history. Some of their family recipes go all the way back to his great-grandfather!
• Christmas Eve with Ed’s family, having an amazing meal and then a white elephant gift exchange with his cousins.
• Potlucks with Kathleen’s family where everyone brings a dish (so much food!).
• Tailgating with friends and family to see Philadelphia Phillies games (we’re season ticket holders!).
• Fourth of July with Ed’s side, watching the parade from his aunt’s front porch. He and his cousins have taken a picture together on that porch every year since he was little!
