A Letter from Matthew & Heather

We are native South Carolinians and are blessed to call this beautiful place home. We love traveling and enjoy spending time in nature whether that be walking on the beach, driving through the mountains, or kayaking on the river. God placed on both our hearts, the desire to adopt long before we found out we could not have children biologically. We center our lives around God, our family, and our community. Our family stands firm in the belief that a child cannot be loved too much, or by too many! We are open to a baby of any race, gender and would love to share visits, pictures, and letters at your desire. We are so excited to grow our family and are praying for you and your child.

About Us

We met by chance over 10 years ago at a horticultural association trade show Heather assisted in coordinating, where our fathers were both participating. Little did we know, they had been friends for over 2 decades! We will have been married for 9 years and love to spend our free time enjoying the simple things: spending time with family and friends, watching movies at home, and playing with our mini golden-doodle, Able.  We enjoy going on walks, kayaking, taking weekend trips to the mountains and traveling abroad.  We both really enjoy creative, delicious cuisine and love to experience new cultures through food.  Our strength and joy in marriage is founded in our personal relationships with God. We are thrilled to become parents and promise that your child will have opportunities to develop interests, cultivate passions and thrive through the love and support of our family.   We look forward to taking them for walks on the beach, on picnics, on hikes in the mountains, teaching them to kayak, and much more.

About Matthew (in Heather’s words)

Matthew is generous, genuine, and has a heart for serving others.  He is intentional with his time and true with his words.  He never loses an opportunity to let those he cares for know how he feels and show his support.  I’m amazed by his desire to learn and ability to pick up new skills such as carpentry, mechanics, and all things home improvement.  He has many interests which have translated into a colorful work history and enough college credits to have multiple degrees.  He serves in the US Air Force in aircrew support and has been a military service member since 2013.  He earned the title of Eagle Scout in high school and is looking forward to sharing his passion for camping and love for nature with our child as well as making new memories and building new traditions as a family!

About Heather (in Matthew’s words)

Heather is empathetic, loving, and kind.  I am most in awe of is her desire and intentionality to be present with those she loves and those in need.  Heather is never more than a call away and is always there to help others. She is creative and enjoys different things such as working with polymer clay to create earrings; photography- especially architecture and landscape; has a passion for horticulture where she enjoys tending to all the plants in our yard and has many house plants she cares for.  Heather is a substitute teacher for all grades but especially enjoys high school classes. She is looking forward to being a stay-at-home mom for our child.  I know she is excited to share and teach our child all about her interests, and will encourage them to cultivate their own passions.

Our Family

We both have a large extended family! Matthew’s parents are happily married going on 40 years and recently retired to the foothills of South Carolina, a few hours away. He has one sister who is married and they have a young daughter, and just set off on a new adventure in Germany for a few years. We are all very close, and visit as often as schedules allow. Heather’s parents have been happily married for over 43 years and have retired back to live in her hometown on their family’s farm, a couple hours away. She has one sister who is married with 3 children who live in the same city as us, which allows for close relationships with our nieces and nephew.  We are very blessed that our parents are great friends. Holiday’s and family gatherings typically include both of our families, and we cannot wait to have their support and community as parents. Everyone is very excited to welcome our child into the family!

Our Home in South Carolina

Our home is a place of unconditional acceptance and togetherness. It has three bedrooms, spacious living spaces that lead to an outdoor living space that includes a screened porch, patio, and fenced-in backyard perfect for kids and our dog. Our dog, Able, loves people, kids, and has a playful, calm temperament. Our nursery is decorated with comfy floor cushions, shelves of books, and peaceful colors and patterns. It is a space that was created to evolve with them as they grow. Our neighborhood is community-oriented and safe. We have several parks within walking distance.

Our Promise

We promise to love, care for, cheer on, and advocate for your child with all that we have. Your child will be cherished by us as well as our families. We promise to listen and encourage, to offer guidance and support, celebrate every accomplishment, and champion every adventure.  We promise to honor their adoption story and the loving agreement that adoption is between you, your child, and us. We want a relationship that supports the best interest of our child and you, whether that be visits, calls, photos, or letters.

More About Our Family
Our Life

We enjoy spending time together as a family and strive to make every trip memorable, whether it's traveling somewhere new or going to stay with a member of our family for the weekend and enjoy grilling out while watching a football game. With a love for the outdoors, we look forward to sharing these passions with our child, whether it be heading to the mountains or beach and exploring, or teaching them how to tend to plants and taking care of the yard. We hope to share a desire for adventure and appreciation for God's creation with them!

Our Faith

We both were raised in Christian families. Matthew being raised in a Baptist church and Heather being raised in a Presbyterian church. Since we married we have attended a nondenominational church. Our faith is focused on God and we believe in the Holy trinity being our Heavenly Father, His son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit in one. We will always keep God first in our family and at the center of our marriage. We promise to raise your child in an inclusive home with Christian values, where everyone is accepted, just as God accepts us.

Our Musical Interests

Music can always be heard playing inside our home, whether it be Alexa playing our favorite station while making dinner, or putting a record on and dancing around our living room. We both have a deep respect for musicians and have always bonded over the way we tie certain songs to memories. We enjoy listening to most styles and genres of music. On any given day, we could be found listening to classic rock, big band jazz, indie folk, blues, 90s pop, or worship music.

Our Family Traditions (in Matthew's words)

We were raised with strong matriarchs in our family that established traditions that have become our dearest memories. Traditions we hope our children's children will know of and put into practice. Every week, my Dad's entire extended family would gather for Sunday dinner at my grandparent’s after church. My grandmother created a space that drew people in. We would all travel in from out of town and even out of state, to be present because it was important; and we knew how much our presence meant to her. The stories told around the dinner table, the music played in the den by relatives who brought instruments and sang, the food that seemed to multiply like a Bible story when it never seemed like there would be enough, the folks that weren't family but were in need of a hot meal and knew that "Miss Lucille" would have a plate for them. Laughing and communing around the dinner table that was made up of diverse individuals with differing political and religious views. These are my most treasured memories and valuable life lessons because I was taught by example, how to be inclusive, loving, and intentional relationally while still being true to one self. Birthdays, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas were also spent with family with the typical celebrating taking place, but Sunday at Grandma's was my favorite. Family is second only to my faith, and I am thrilled to bring a child into our loving family that prioritizes quality time and intentionality in relationships.

Another tradition our family has that we treasure: In lieu of a large Christmas present, we go on a trip together as a family. We decided a few years ago that we would all like to prioritize making memories over materialism. It is fun to plan the 'where, when, and what' details as a family and we've been able to have great experiences together! We are excited to pass these values on to our child and give space for the true reason we are celebrating the holiday to be observed and appreciated.
